Physics Homework Problem Set # 6

Here' s the physics hw if you need it Dizzy.

  1. A photon of green light has a frequency of approximately 6.0 x 1014 Hz. Calculate the energy associated with this photon.
  2. Determine the energy of a photon having a wavelength of 4 x 10-7 meters.
  3. Calculate a photon’s energy in electronvolts if it has 8 x 10-19 J of energy.
  4. What is the minimum energy required to ionize a hydrogen atom in the n = 3 state?
  5. An electron in a mercury atom jumps from level a to level g by absorbing a single photon. What is the energy of the photon in electronvolts?
  6. How does the energy of an atom change as the atom goes from its ground state to an excited state?
  7. Determine the frequency of the photon emitted when an excited hydrogen atom changes from energy level n = 3 to n = 2.
  8. A hydrogen atom emits a 2.55 electronvolt photon as its electron changes from one energy level to another.
    1. Determine the energy level change for the electron.
    2. Express the energy of the emitted photon in joules.
    3. Determine the frequency of the emitted photon.

Waves Physics II Problem Set #5

Answer the following questions on a separate piece of paper.

 Do not re-write the question.

Be sure to put your name, the problem set number and period at the top of the page.

This problem set is due on Monday, March 31st, 2008

1.       What is the wavelength of a light ray with frequency 5.09 × 1014 hertz as it travels through Lucite?

2.       A ray of light (f = 5.09 × 1014 Hz) is incident on the boundary between air and an unknown material X at an angle of incidence of 55°. The absolute index of refraction of material X is 1.66.

                     a.         Draw a ray diagram to represent the information given above.

                     b.         Identify a substance of which material X may be composed.

                     c.         Determine the speed of this ray of light in material X.

                     d.         Calculate the angle of refraction of the ray of light in material X.

3.       What is the speed of a ray of light (f = 5.09 × 1014 hertz) traveling through a block of sodium chloride?

4.       A ray of monochromatic light of frequency 5.09 × 1014 hertz is traveling from water into medium X. The angle of incidence in water is 45° and the angle of refraction in medium X is 29°.

                    a.         Draw a ray diagram representing this information.

                    b.         Calculate the absolute index of refraction of medium X.

5.      A ray of monochromatic light with a frequency of 5.09 × 1014 hertz is transmitted through four different media: corn oil, ethyl alcohol, flint glass, and water. Rank the four media from the one through which the light travels at the slowest speed to the one through which the light travels at the fastest speed.

Here are the physic hw questions Dizzy.

  1. Periodic waves are produced by a wave generator at the rate of one wave every 0.5 seconds. What is the period of the wave?
  2. Write an equation that correctly relates the speed v, wavelength lambda, and period T of a periodic wave.
  3. If the frequency of a sound wave is 440 cycles per second, what is its period?
  4. A sound wave travels at 340 meters per second. After 0.5 seconds, how far from the source of the wave has the wave traveled?
  5. Sound waves with constant frequency of 250 H are traveling through the air at STP. Determine the wavelength of the sound waves.
  6. What total distance will a sound wave travel in air in 3 seconds?
  7. A sound wave is produced by a musical instrument for 0.40 seconds. If the frequency of the wave is 370 Hz, how many complete waves are produced in that time period?
  8. New York’s 300-m high Citicorp Tower oscillates in the wind with a period of 6.80 s. Calculate its frequency of vibration.
